Walking along water channel supplying Aliabad, Sangemar
We walked for several miles along this channel and by my alitimeter we only lost a couple of meters. It is carrying melt water from the glacier to the village of Aliabad several miles away and provides their only source of water. In places such as this these channels are cut out of the sides of vertical cliffs. The work required to construct them by small rural village communities is quite incredible. Almost all the villages along the main valley sides are supplied by water taken from glaciers in side valleys in exactly this way.
