View - Play Slideshow
This will start a slideshow running. There are three different possible slideshows modes determined by the current view mode. If the Database is currently being viewed it will be shown, if the Active Named Collection is currently being viewed it will be shown and if more than one image is currently selected those selected images only will be shown.
The interval between each slide can be controlled in three ways; view-options, the slider control at the top right of the main window or the left and right arrow keys. Note to use the left and right arrow keys you must ensure the main display (right) pane currently has the focus - this can be done by clicking anywhere in this pane. The interval time will be adjusted in steps of one second. This speed change will not be immediate but will take effect from the next slide displayed.
The slideshow can be paused at any time by either using the pause option (see below) or hitting the space key which will toggle between pause and play.
Note: when a slideshow is paused all normal navigation is enabled and restarting the slideshow will still continue from where it left off.
View - Pause Slideshow
This will pause the slideshow - hitting the space bar will also pause. The slideshow can be continued from the point at which it has been paused by either hitting play or the space bar.
View - Stop Slideshow
This will stop the slideshow - hitting play again will restart the slideshow from the beginning.
Manually Advancing a Slideshow
Slideshows can also be manually advanced. Using Ctrl space bar whether the slideshow is stopped, playing or paused will switch to manual advance mode. now subsequent use of the space bar will step through the slideshow one slide at a time and Ctrl space bar will step backwards. To resume the normal automatic mode either use the normal menu/toolbar play options or simply hit the enter key.
Although a similar effect can be achieved simply by using the arrow keys to step through images when not in a slideshow mode, there are certain advantages to the manual slideshow advance technique in that you can switch between manual and automatic during a slide show. So you might run the slideshow automatically for a while and then switch to manual for a few slides that require more study/explanation then back to automatic again.
